I have always loved THINGS. If it is small, odd and in any way meaningful, I want it. These are some of my favourites knick-knacks.
Clock-wise from far left: antique pipe of my Dad’s; hand-carved wooden bobbin-type thing (?); mother-of-pearl fish gaming counters; dried starfish; embroidered trinket bag; trinket box made from real walnut; engraved gourd rattle; sentimental pen-knife; soapstone Speak No Evil monkey; another trinket box made from real walnut; ‘E’ brass seal with mother-of-pearl handle; pewter owl of Athena, from the British Museum.
This is a traditional fairy tale ending apparently. I’m planning to make an etching of this to use in the back of my Atalanta book.
I had to stop working and take a picture of this. Look at it! It’s amazing!
I love the way the pigment settles in the tooth of the paper like that, the way the colours bleed and pool. Wonderful.
